INGLEWOOD, Calif. (Nov. 22, 2009) — Zenyatta, the undefeated champion mare who finished her career with a perfect 14-for-14 record by beating males with her dramatic late charge in the Breeders’ Cup Classic, will be saluted by Hollywood Park and Betfair/TVG on Sunday, Nov. 29 — Hollywood Derby Day.
Zenyatta, stabled at Hollywood Park throughout her career, will parade following the seventh race on the program which will feature the 68th running of the $300,000 Hollywood Derby (GI) and the $100,000 Miesque Stakes (GIII).
Patrons attending the celebration of Zenyatta will receive a DVD — “ZENYATTA, A Living Legend” — which will include interviews and each of her 14 starts, culminating with the sensational victory over a world-class field in the Breeders’ Cup Classic at Santa Anita Park. Zenyatta, who climaxed a brilliant career with an exciting victory in the $5-million Breeders’ Cup Classic at Santa Anita Park Saturday, continued to dominate backstretch conversation Thursday as Hollywood Park prepared to open its 27-date Autumn Meet Friday night.
“Her popularity is overwhelming,” said trainer John Shirreffs as he followed the 5-year-old mare to his barn after she jogged twice around the adjacent training track under exercise rider Steve Willard.
“She has great fans,” added Shirreffs of the outpouring of support for the mare — both at the track Saturday and via letters, phone calls and messages since — after her 14th straight victory during an unbeaten career.
Zenyatta, who stretched her unbeaten streak to 11 with her victory in the Vanity Handicap, was voted Horse of the Meet.

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (July 19, 2008) — Zenyatta, who stretched her unbeaten streak to 11 with repeat victories in the Milady Handicap and Vanity Handicap, was voted Horse of the Meet in the annual media poll as the 55-day Spring/Summer Meet closed Sunday.
Zenyatta, owned by Jerry and Ann Moss, trained by John Shirreffs and ridden by Mike Smith, received eight of ten votes. Also voted Horse of the Meet when she won the Milady and Vanity in 2008, Zenyatta was a unanimous choice as older female.
The daughter of Street Cry notched career victory No. 11 as she came from off the pace under 129 pounds to score a 2 ½-length victory while being geared down in the closing yards of the Vanity. She spotted five rivals from 13 to 16 pounds while toting the most weight for a Vanity winner since Cascapedia in 1977.

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (June 24, 2009) — Unbeaten champion Zenyatta will spot seven rivals from 13 to18 pounds under Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith as she carries high weight of 129 pounds in quest of her 11th victory in Saturday’s $300,000 Vanity Handicap at Hollywood Park.
Zenyatta, winner of the Grade I event last year when she won an Eclispe Award as the nation’s outstanding older female, will attempt to become the fifth repeat winner of the 1 1/8-mile Vanity. The latest was two-time champion Azeri in 2002-03. Zenyatta would be joining an exceptional honor roll which also includes Annie-Lu-San (1957-58), Convenience (1972-73) and It’s In The Air (1979-80).
The 5-year-old Kentucky-bred daughter of Street Cry began her 2009 campaign with a repeat victory in the 1 1/16-mle Milady Handicap here May 23 when she carried high weight of 126 pounds. Owned by Jerry and Ann Moss, she boosted her earnings to $2,234,580 with her tenth victory.

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) — Move over, Rachel Alexandra and make room for undefeated filly Zenyatta.
Zenyatta pulled away to a 1¾-length victory over Life Is Sweet in Saturday’s $150,000 Milady Handicap, improving to 10-0 in her career. Ridden by Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith, Zenyatta rallied from 12 lengths off the pace to win at Hollywood Park in her first start after a seven-month layoff.
