INGLEWOOD, Calif. (August 19, 2010)—Blind Luck, who capped her 2-year-old season with an easy win in the Hollywood Starlet last December, will try to do Saturday at Saratoga something no other Starlet heroine has ever done.
The daughter of Pollard’s Vision, who has four graded stakes victories in 2010, will look for a win in the $500,000 Betfair/TVG Alabama, a Grade I at 1 ¼ miles.
One of three fillies to win both the Starlet and the Kentucky Oaks – joining Goodbye Halo and Sardula – Blind Luck will have five opponents in the Alabama, which is being run for the 130th time.

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (August 17, 2010)—Three Hollywood Park stakes winners will get together in the $75,000 Green Flash Handicap Wednesday at Del Mar.
Headlining the field of eight in the race at five furlongs on turf is California Flag.
The easy winner of the 2008 Hollywood Turf Express, California Flag will be making his first start since he finished third as the favorite in the Al Quoz Sprint at Meydan in the United Arab Emirates on March 27.

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (August 14, 2010)—Russell Baze, the world’s winningest rider, earned career victory No. 11,000 on Saturday at the Sonoma County Fair in Santa Rosa, Ca.
The milestone win for Baze, who turned 52 on Aug. 7, came in the day’s fourth race. He guided Separate Forest, a debuting 3-year-old Forestry filly, to an easy victory in the $25,000 contest for older maiden fillies and mares. Owned by breeder Gerald Ford’s Diamond A Racing Corporation and trained by Richard Mandella, Separate Forest, who had recorded eight works over the Cushion Track at Hollywood Park prepping for her initial race, completed the 5 ½ furlongs in 1:02.38.
South American based jockey Jorge Ricardo is next on the list with 10,867 wins. Baze surpassed Laffit Pincay, Jr. to become the leading rider in North America when he won for the 9,531st time on Dec. 1, 2006 at Bay Meadows.

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (August 13, 2010)—Three stakes winners during Hollywood Park’s 2010 spring-summer meet are among eight 3-year-olds scheduled to run in the $150,000 La Jolla Handicap Saturday at Del Mar.
Leroy’s Dynameaux, Golden Itiz and Alphie’s Bet, who combined to win four times in Inglewood, will all be seeking the first Grade II victories of their career in the La Jolla, which is run at 1 1/16 miles on turf.
Owned by Mace and Samantha Siegel’s Jay Em Ess Stable and trained by Ron Ellis, Golden Itiz has yet to try the grass in a career that has seen him win three of four over synthetic. In his graded debut on June 18, the Tiznow colt won the Affirmed Handicap, defeating Skipshot, who, subsequently won the Swaps Stakes on July 17, by a half-length as the 9-10 favorite.
INGLEWOOD, Calif. (August 12, 2010)—The induction ceremonies Friday at the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame will have a distinct Southern California feel.
Five members –two human and three equine – of the class of 2010 for the sport’s Hall of Fame all rose to local prominence.
The inductees during ceremonies in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. include jockey Don Pierce, trainer Michael Ernst “Buster’’ Millerick and thoroughbreds Azeri, Best Pal and Point Given.
The champion mare remains unbeaten.

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (August 10, 2010)—Zenyatta returned to her home at Hollywood Park today after a short, but successful , road trip.
The brilliant 6-year-old daughter of Street Cry remained unbeaten, winning for the 18th time in the $300,000 Clement L. Hirsch Stakes Aug. 7 at Del Mar.
The victory was her third in a row in the Hirsch, meaning she has won two different Grade 1’s in Southern California three times. On June 13, Zenyatta became the first horse to win the $250,000 Vanity Handicap at Hollywood Park thrice.

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (August 9, 2010)—Continuing a trend, J P’s Gusto followed his victory in the Hollywood Juvenile Championship on July 5 with another graded stakes victory in the $150,000 Best Pal Stakes Sunday at Del Mar.
Owned by Gem Inc. and trained by David Hofmans, the 2-year-old son of Successful Appeal became the fourth Hollywood Juvenile winner in the last six years to repeat in the Best Pal.
Besides J P’s Gusto, who has won three of four – he also won the Willard L. Proctor Memorial at Hollywood Park prior to the Juvenile – the others who swept both races are Azul Leon (2008), Salute The Sarge and What a Song (2005).

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (August 6, 2010)—Skipshot and J P’s Gusto, both stakes winners in their final start at Hollywood Park last month, will aim for repeats at different venues this weekend.
Owned by Olympia Star Inc. and trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, Skipshot, who upset Sidney’s Candy in the Swaps Stakes on July 17, will face eight other 3-year-olds in the $750,000 West Virginia Derby Saturday at Mountaineer Park.
One day later, J P’s Gusto, who won the Willard L. Proctor Memorial and Hollywood Juvenile Championship in succession during the spring-summer meet, will take on seven other 2-year-olds in the $150,000 Best Pal at Del Mar.
